Move up to take a bootlegger down, but Martin loves its brown
Even the mayor used to make, & the chief was on the take
Johnson’s store yonder down the street & Gilbert always got us meat
& Old Man Murphy ran the funeral home
Now I’ve spilled more blood than a Viking should, fire & iron where someone else called home
Big Joe Crutchfield put his wife on the ground
It was no mistake, so I took that call, I’ve worn all shade of blue & 1 thing I hold true
Be as tough as they think they are
Never took a man up the hill, hold his eyes till they go still
Said, “Joe, I’ll take you, or Murphy will.”
Order’s an order, but a crime is a crime, ain’t never been a man to abide
So, they looked to be takin’ my star, I’m gonna take this town
Get the boys & the extra shells, folks round here have not seen hell
Bring Mike for whoever gets shot
Round the deputies up one by one, have two in the front so they get in the back
If they’re good with the cause, then they’re good with us & you can let ‘em out
The girls can stay with Hazel at the farm, round up Pete & Big Red at the barn
ain’t got no place in what I gotta do

Taking orders from men led by greed
